Benefits of getting involved in research
Research is of paramount importance to patients and the healthcare system for several key reasons:
Advancing Medical Knowledge: Research contributes to the expansion of medical knowledge and the understanding of diseases and treatment options. This knowledge is crucial for effectively diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.
Improved Treatment Options: Research leads to the development of new treatments, medications, and medical procedures, benefiting patients with more effective, less invasive, or less harmful alternatives to existing treatments.
Early Detection and Prevention: Research plays a critical role in early disease detection and prevention strategies. Identifying risk factors and diagnostic tools through research helps in the early detection of diseases, potentially leading to more successful outcomes.
Personalized Medicine: Research enables the development of personalized medicine, where treatments can be tailored to an individual's unique genetic and medical characteristics. This approach can result in more effective and less harmful treatments for patients.
Improving Quality of Life: Research efforts contribute to enhancing patients' quality of life, involving the development of new technologies, therapies, and interventions that make living with chronic conditions more manageable.
Enhancing Safety: Research helps identify and address safety concerns related to medical treatments and devices, ensuring the safety of patients, which is a fundamental aspect of healthcare research.
Informed Decision-Making: Patients can make more informed decisions about their healthcare when they have access to research findings and evidence-based information, empowering them to participate in their treatment decisions.
Access to Clinical Trials: Research often involves clinical trials, allowing patients to access cutting-edge treatments that may not be available through standard care. Participation in these trials can offer patients new options and hope.
Healthcare Cost Reduction: Effective research can lead to cost-effective treatments and interventions, potentially reducing the financial burden on patients and healthcare systems.
Future Generations' Well-being: Research not only benefits current patients but also future generations. Discoveries made today can have a lasting impact on healthcare, benefiting those who will require medical care in the future.
research is a cornerstone of modern healthcare, driving progress, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring that medical practices are based on the best available evidence. It has a profound and positive impact on the well-being of patients and the healthcare system.
How to find out about the research
Research is one of the three organizational pillars of HMC (Hamad Medical Corporation). It plays a vital role in ensuring that HMC patients receive the highest possible standard of care. HMC has communicated this commitment to its staff through various internal channels, including the Human Research Project Leadership Webinar, monthly training lessons by the Medical Research Center (MRC), and public-facing platforms such as the HMC website. The MRC has also developed and published research leaflets as a part of their general research awareness promotion materials for the public, patients, and hospital staff.
Many research subjects are informed about opportunities to participate in research by the Principal Investigator or members of the research team who are also providing clinical care. Colleagues in the hospital also are informed about ongoing research projects.
We assure you
If you are part of involved in the ACC research
-
protects your rights and confidentiality
The research project promises to provide a consent form that safeguards the rights and confidentiality of participants. This means that participants will be asked for their consent before participating, and the form will explain how their rights and personal information will be protected.
-
We give indemnity insurance
The research project offers indemnity insurance. Indemnity insurance is a type of insurance that protects against legal liability, often used in research to cover potential harms or risks to participants.
-
we allow freedom to pull out of the research
Participants in the research are given the freedom to withdraw from the study at any time. This ensures that participants can stop their involvement in the research if they choose to do so without any negative consequences.
In summary, this sentence assures potential research participants that their rights and confidentiality will be protected through a consent form, they will be covered by indemnity insurance, and they can choose to withdraw from the research at any time. It's essential for research projects to provide these assurances to protect the interests and well-being of their participants.
